Textual Analysis- Video Game
Kinect Sports
The trailer begins with the age group restrictions of Pegi 12, which symbolizes to the audiences not to allow children under the age of 12 to play the game because the kinetic will not be able to read their movement and let them play the game. It then cuts into a close up of a woman in the position of a runner within the starting blocks which straight away implies the theme of the game alongside the title, and begins to change into a longshot featuring a pair of people (parents of family) running on the spot which again changes into a field with the same woman but with children instead of the man showing it is available for different ages to interact, and they have used slow motion to show the intensity of sport itself and its competitive side rather than relaxing and messing about. Within the video footage of the trailer is the incidental music, the choice of music is fun and uplifting creating the perspective of what sport is about, being enjoyable and interactive.
Throughout the trailer the producers, XBOX, have decided to include inter-cuts of families and archive fooCtage. This is used because it is a must have to show the game in use and to show what sports are available on the game or some sports, whilst analyzing I saw the sports that were the ideal choice of archive footage, they used footage for Table Tennis, Boxing, Hurdles, Volleyballs and Football. In my opinion i think these were chose to show their audiences watching the trailer the different movements that are required to play each sport and how they work. Also in the trailer i could hear faint/slight sound bridges of people cheering and laughing and at one point the slapping noise of the high five the two young children did after gaining a strike at bowling, this is to emphasis the fun that people will have whilst playing the game.
Call of Duty: Ghosts
This game trailer starts with an inquiry of age restrictions, etc, inside a bold box in the center of the screen implying its importance to audiences who watch it. Infinity Ward logo appears onto the screen via graphic effects of dust forming the letters which creates a dramatic and mysterious genre to the game itself along with the sound bridge of music played instrumentally on what sounds to be like a piano, which is used all through the trailer emphasizing the games dramatic idea. Next an image of land, coloured as redy orange, is used to intrigue the audience into the trailer, with the image we see a few bright lights falling from the sky this could create a picturesque thought of a meteorite concluding "the end of the world" implying what war can become if something isn't done to inform peace, also a voice over of a soldier is used all the way through the trailer to emphasis the story of war including intensity to a real life situation. Then we fade into a scene of a city/ highways and a cliff with a church on the brinks of falling, this is used to describe what war is about, no peace just hell, they have also used characters (soldier and his dog) on the left side of the screen allowing audiences to have their own opinion to what they must be thinking. For me it gives the impression of scare and curiosity. Following these two scenes are constant fades of rundown houses showing no life everything is scarce, reverse tracking is used within the house to extend the imagination of the audiences watching the trailer they can put themselves into the cameras position within the scene and feel isolated and alone because everyone has left or been killed. It then appears into a wood/ forest with a low angled horizontal tracking shot behind a soldier showing his importance and that he is the reason why we are safe, with his protection.
Scenes then change from land based into a frozen sea symbolizing a change in in battlefield within wars and not just shown in the one place, but with this scene is a few bodies and vehicles shown within a slow motion sinking effect to emphasize the thought of pain and suffering. The trailer switches to a twist where their is a close up of a dog, this is used to show to audiences that it is not just men and woman who go to war but animals as well and they are shown as an asset for people in the wars around the world, past and present. Scenes continue through to helicopters flying over a smokey, urbanized area this shows developed technology can help people win wars also it includes a point of view shot to imply interaction with other soldiers and their actions. In the trailer Activision have included scenes of virtual realistic missions to interpret to audiences what soldiers would have to go through in day to day life whilst at war and also image of a man putting on a balaclava with a skull printed on it represents the two sides in which soldiers have, a calm collected one and a will powered one to get jobs done. Lastly the captions portray the franchise and awards as bold white letters, but the main title of Call Of Duty is shown in the "signature" typography of white jagged letters.
